Rooted in Oyo.
Connected to Yorubaland.
The Royal History Museum of Oyo State, Nigeria (RHMO) was conceived as a place to preserve, document and interpret the rich heritage of Yoruba royal institutions and the communities around them.
Oyo State is the seat and starting point of the museum's work, but the vision is larger. RHMO seeks to grow into a wider documentation and interpretation initiative spanning Yorubaland—recognising the many monarchies, communities, traditions and historical experiences that form Yoruba civilisation.
Our work brings together research, oral history, digital documentation, community knowledge and responsible heritage stewardship. We are interested not only in royal objects and celebrated rulers, but also in the people, practices and knowledge systems that have sustained royal life across generations.
